Psychosocial

The Psychosocial team at BIED consists of psychological counselors dedicated to ensuring mental health and wellbeing for diverse members of the community. Additionally, since August 2017, BIED has played an integral role in providing support in the form of community based mental health support in the vulnerable Rohingya community in Cox’s Bazaar. The model is the first of such a scale in the field of mental health in Bangladesh, where BIED offers group and individual counseling to clinical intervention to the women, children and even men of the Forcefully Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) community.

Four Tier Model

BIED’s novel approach to delivering psychosocial support is to provide a community based mental health model that has been adapted and scaled to a four-tiered psychosocial support approach in Cox’s Bazar, drawn from research and previous experience. As the name suggests, the model involves four steps that consist of four levels of staff who create a referral pathway for psychosocial support for Rohingya women, children and even some men.

Trauma Counseling

In the wake of the 2013 Rana Plaza Disaster, BRAC Institute of Educational Development (BIED), BRAC University, in collaboration with BRAC Disaster Management and Climate Change (DMCC) has been consistently working to support the survivors of the tragedy

Short Courses

Objective of short courses is to enable the educators to apply psychosocial support to specific adolescent groups in their community with an empathetic approach. The courses are designed in a training format where both the generic psychosocial skills and need based skills are practiced and developed. Training sessions are focused on the view to alter the attitudes of administrative staff members and enable a more empathetic attitude through ongoing practice sessions and case studies.
